SLANZA PD 2020 - Connected Facebook Event and Online Connected Librarians module #14

Facebook Connected Term 1
“Hey, I’m over here!”
We know that school librarians have many skills and are often the experts in their schools for reading engagement and information literacy and looking after the needs of our library users. We know this but does everyone in your school know this too? This discussion is for us to have a look at how we feel about the support and appreciation we get from our colleagues and communities.
We are hearing that many of us feel underappreciated and unrecognised for our skills so let's discuss how this is for us and find some solutions together.
Each day we will look at a different aspect of our school librarian role, taken from the areas listed in last week’s poll. Thank you to those who have filled in the poll on our SLANZA Connected Facebook page about how supported you feel in your role in your school and community. I know there has been some confusion but it was really to get us thinking about the support and collegiality we feel we receive in our jobs so we can discuss this further during the PD Event on this Connected page starting on Monday 17 February.

Term 1 SLANZA Online Module
Registrations for the SLANZA Module #14: School Library Promotion and Appreciation module of the Connected Librarians course will be open from today Monday 17 February and will close on Monday 2 March.

Here is the link on the SLANZA website to register:
This course is in response to feedback we have received from members about how they feel underappreciated and under utilised in their schools. It is about sharing ideas and techniques for promoting our school librarian roles with our colleagues and communities.
What to expect in this course?
On successful course completion, learners will be able to:
  • have a better understanding of our roles as school librarians within our schools
  • learn ways to develop good relationships with colleagues
  • write a relevant and useful annual report
  • set personal goals for the year or following year
  • set library goals for the year or following year
  • understand the appraisal process and how to facilitate this
The course will be starting on Monday 9 March and finishes on Friday 3 April 2020.

This course is designed by New Zealand school librarians, for school librarians - for anyone who is ready and willing to learn and try new things and share their thoughts and learning with others. You can work at your own pace, in your own time and network with other school librarians. For those school librarians working in schools on their own, this is invaluable.

The course is only available and free for SLANZA members.

Please visit the Online PD page on our SLANZA website for further information and to register. Or register here.

SLANZA 2020 Conference 27-30 September

5/2/2020

Registrations are open for this year's SLANZA Conference, being held in your capital city and plans are afoot to give you a wonderful mix of celebration (we’ve been here for 20 years), friendliness, fun, fierce learning, good coffee, a chance to hang out with your fellow librarians and to be wowed by those you meet and listen to at the conference (or by the actual WOW if you want - it’s on at the same time).

Here is the website, so register for early bird rates now and check out the range of accommodation suggested.

We are confirming our keynote speakers right now so it won’t be long before we can reveal our exciting line up. We are very happy! We hope you will be too.

The SLANZA 2020 call for abstracts portal has re-opened and will close at Midday on Monday 24 February 2020. This is your opportunity to share ideas, knowledge, stories of successes (and failures) and much more to an audience of conference attendees. Go on . . . give it a go! Librarians are such good sharers.

We look forward to hearing from you.
