SLANZA Ohu Mahi

Under the governance model, we will have a governance group and management groups.
The Governance Group will be the National Executive and their mahi includes:
- what are we doing/going to do
- why does it matter
- when does it need to be done by
- where does this need to happen
The Management Groups, Ohu Mahi, or Working Groups will be SLANZA members, possibly with an NE member, who will work together to develop and organise how to do the mahi for SLANZA. This uses the adage that many hands make light work, that these Ohu Mahi should not require arduous hours of work. Members of the group may focus on areas that relate to their passion, interests, skills and abilities for the benefit of all SLANZA members. Whether you work together face-to-face or online will depend on the geographical distribution of member volunteers.
Ohu Mahi is the Māori term selected, in consultation, to represent the working groups.
We are looking for members who would like to get involved in SLANZA Ohu. These are the Ohu Mahi that we wish to establish this year:
PLD will create relevant professional learning development courses using the iQualify platform for SLANZA members
Communications will provide strategic messaging, communiqués, media releases, and social media campaigns, to inform and inspire our members, raise awareness throughout Aotearoa and build a stronger community.
Research will aim to collect and share research data, reports, articles and stories that support school librarians and libraries. Collating and sharing this information via and SLANZA website, with the press, media and others as and when required.
Website will redesign and utilise the website to amplify the work of SLANZA and its members to the sector, our communities and stakeholders.
Collected will source, select and proofread articles and advertisements in order to create our biannual publication.
Awards will arrange, promote and confer a series of awards to celebrate and recognise the outstanding efforts and achievements of your fellow school librarians.
The current member driven Ohu Mahi are:
SLANZA Reading Lists - A group of SLANZA Aoraki members maintain, edit and update the Reading Lists website using a LMS web-app, generously provided by AccessIT.
Schoollibs Listserv - A group of SLANZA Otago members provide strategic direction and leadership to ensure the maintenance and facilitation of the Listserv, setting out to consistently monitor membership, posts and culture of the Listserv.
SLANZA Sessions Podcast - A group of SLANZA Central members produce a radio show and podcast to celebrate school libraries, and all of the people who inhabit them. Aiming to deliver interviews, reviews, views and more to listeners.
Thank you to those members who have already expressed an interest in joining our Ohu Mahi working groups. If you wish to get involved or would like more information please fill out this form SLANZA Ohu Mahi – Choose your Ohu of interest or contact your SLANZA National Executive Regional Rep.
