NZEI Te Riu Roa have announced some exciting news regarding the next step in our pay equity claim, which NZEI raised with the Ministry of Education in 2020. It's time to kōrero about the General Areas of Responsibility (GARs), the document that summarises all the knowledge, skills and effort required in our mahi.
‘It’s important we get this part right, and we need your contribution. We’ve learned from past pay equity wins that the more people we have on board, the stronger we are. - NZEI’
The GARs are important because they will allow us to build a matrix that truly reflects the work that we do. Eventually, this matrix will determine each person’s grade and pay rate.
The GARs compile the information gathered during interviews conducted jointly by school librarians as NZEI Te Riu Roa members and the Ministry Pay Equity team with school library staff in schools across the motu.
Pay Equity will affect EVERY school library staff member – immediately!
SLANZA encourages all members to get involved in this process so the GARs accurately capture everyone's roles, which are expected to be released shortly.
Workshops have been set up so you can be involved in this important phase of the process, and you can register now. All librarians are invited. Please register NOW!
