Welcome back to another exciting year in our school libraries. We hope that your year has started well and you have already had many visits from keen and enthusiastic students and staff, discovering the new joys of your great library and the things you can do for them. We do know that there will be challenges for many in the year ahead - reduced hours, limited budgets, libraries having to move, students distracted by the interweb, staff forgetting how amazing we are... That is why it is such a good idea to get together and network with your fellow librarians and school library supporters. That is why SLANZA is here for you.
What SLANZA has planned for the year We are planning some exciting and worthwhile events for you, and to help you plan your year, here is SLANZA Wellington Region’s schedule of events for 2020. We will provide you with more detailed information before each event. SLANZA 2020 Conference If you haven’t seen the emails, tweets and Facebook posts about the SLANZA 2020 Conference in Wellington on 27 - 30 September, please go to the website and check it out. Early bird registrations are open now, as is the portal to submit abstracts for those interested in presenting at conference. Wellington is your hometown, so joining our 20th birthday party is easy! Keynotes will be announced soon. Message from your new SLANZA President about meeting for a korero “On 6 March I am planning to come to Wellington for a SLANZA meeting. I would love to meet as many local librarians as possible to have a chat about their mahi, what works for them, what are the barriers to enabling their libraries from flourishing, what SLANZA can do to support them, and how are you feeling as professionals within your school communities. I reckon a good korero about who we are and what we do is important. We are doing these around Aotearoa to gain a perspective of how we are all doing - a library wellness overview if you like. So please meet up at the Home Cafe in the National Library at 7.00am on Friday 6 March. Please make sure we get as many Wellington librarians there as possible for this chat.” Glenys Bichan SLANZA Book Club We are running a SLANZA Book Club this year. This is an opportunity to get together in a casual setting and do the thing that we love the most, and are really good at - talk about books. This will be a fun and informal regular event held once a term, and we will meet at the Foxglove Bar, Queens Wharf. We have an area put aside for us so we can talk up a book storm! Everybody welcome, no need to be a SLANZA member.
