National Library Services to Schools Transformation Programme John McGlashan College Wednesday 18th February 4pm Dear SLANZA Otago Members, We would like to invite you to a special meeting for our SLANZA Otago membership to discuss the proposed changes to the National Library Services to Schools Transformation Programme. If you are unaware of these changes to the curriculum services from the National Library, attached is the information for schools or we invite you to go to the Services for Schools website at this link: http://ow.ly/IiPIy We are hoping to have as special guest at the meeting, Geraldine Howell .Geraldine is the Director Literacy and Public Programmes for the National Library http://ow.ly/IiQ5j . We are very fortunate that Geraldine is willing to talk with our membership, answer questions and hear our concerns. As of 11/2 no reply has been received from Geraldine, but we hope we will hear from here before the meeting. This meeting is for SLANZA members only (your 2014 membership is still current until the new round of registrations shortly) but if you would like to attend the meeting, you can register as a SLANZA member for 2015 at the meeting or go to our SLANZA website: http://www.slanza.org.nz/personal-membership.html There are various initiatives from many branches of the education sector such as NZEI, New Zealand Principals Federation, LIANZA and many others who are working to make their concerns heard about this decision from the National Library but please do talk to your Principal and teaching staff about this so you can bring questions and concerns of their behalf. All places at the SLANZA Otago Weekend School to be held in the first weekend of the July holidays have been filled and registrations are now closed.
Everyone who has registered should have been contacted by an Otago Committee member to have their registration confirmed and will receive more details regarding the weekend before the end of next week. If you have any questions regarding the Weekend School, please contact Carole Gardiner (Secretary, SLANZA Otago) at caroleg@queens.school.nz. SLANZA members are still welcome to attend the SLANZA 2014 AGM at King's High School, Dunedin at 12.15 on Saturday 5th July without registering for the Weekend School. If you would like to submit an apology for the AGM please send it to admin@slanza.org.nz. The full programme for the Weekend School being held in Dunedin on the 4th-7th July is now available. Please ensure that you register using the online form before 27th June to guarantee your place. We are very excited to announce that the 2014 SLANZA Otago Weekend School, incorporating the SLANZA 2014 AGM will be held at the beginning of July. Please see below for details of speakers and presentations (and a couple of social events as well, of course!), and a link to the online registration form. We need to receive your registration and payment by 27th of June so please don’t delay – mark the 5th to the 7th of July in your diaries now! If you have any questions, please get in touch. We are very much looking forward to seeing you in July. The first SLANZA Otago event for 2014 will be held at the Otago Girls' High School Library on April 2nd. Please mark this date in your diary and come along and join us for an afternoon with award winning NZ children's and young adult writer, Melinda Szymanik. For more details, please see our flyer.
