The nomination and election process
The process of opening nominations for the SLANZA (School Library Association of New Zealand Aotearoa) President-Elect position begins with a formal call for candidates from within the SLANZA membership within two months of when a new President starts their term.
SLANZA members are informed about the opportunity to nominate or be nominated, with clear guidelines on the necessary qualifications, such as active involvement in SLANZA and a demonstrated commitment to the organisation’s goals. The nomination period is announced via email to members and on the AGM webpage, ensuring all members are aware. Once the nomination window closes, nominees are reviewed, and their eligibility is confirmed by a selection committee or board. If there are multiple qualified candidates, an election is held where SLANZA members can vote for their preferred candidate. This democratic process ensures transparency and engagement, resulting in a leader who is both qualified and supported by the membership.
