Emma Stilwell - Aoraki SLANZA National Executive Representative
Ko Tuao Wharepapa te maunga e rū nei taku ngākau.
Ko Riuwaka te awa i whangai i ōku tīpuna.
Nō Itāria nō Airihi nō Ingarangi ōku tīpuna ā-toto, Nō Tiamana toku whānau whāngai.
Nō Whakatū ahau.
Kei Ōtautahi tōku kāinga ināianei.
He kaimahipukapuka ahau i roto i te whare pukapuka o te Kura o te Karaiti.
Ko Emma Stilwell toku ingoa.
Kia ora, I'm Emma and I’m very much a person of the Aoraki rohe. I grew up on a farm south of Nelson, and now live in Christchurch. In between I lived in Wellington, where I studied at Victoria University doing a BA and (eventually) a MIS. That's also where I first started working in libraries. I’ve also lived in Edmonton, Canada, where I had the impactful experience of working in a world leading public library system, before moving home and working in Christchurch City Libraries.
After many years in public libraries, in 2022 school librarianship beckoned. I now find great joy and meaning working with the horde of teenage boys at Christ’s College. There is never a dull day. I joined the Aoraki SLANZA committee several years ago for the camaraderie of working with other librarians. The only thing I missed about public libraries was the teamwork, and SLANZA helped fill that gap.
