SLANZA Conferences & Hui
Professional learning and development is vital for growing and strengthening the school library sector, and the SLANZA Conference/Hui provides essential national and regional opportunities for professional growth and networking. These events serve to elevate the expertise of school library staff by offering high-quality, lead professional learning, fostering collaboration, and sharing best practices across the motu.
To ensure broad accessibility and engagement, SLANZA we aim to host a major national conference every three years, rotating between the three main centres: Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland. In the intervening years, smaller, focused regional hui are held—one in the North Island and one in the South Island.
This structure is designed to promote equity by offering support and an opportunity for more provincial regions to host and run local events, thereby providing all SLANZA members with a greater opportunity to participate in a significant professional development event close to home.

Our 2026 event:
We're pleased to announce that the 2026 SLANZA Hui will be held this year at James Hargest College, Invercargill on Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th September.
SLANZA Conference 2027

Te Ara o Tāwhaki - Beyond the Bookshelves, the SLANZA National Conference will be held at Auckland Grammar School, in central Auckland on Wednesday 29th September to Friday 1st October 2027.
For your PD budget request allow approximately $500 for registration and $105, per night for on-site shared boarding accommodation. As part of the library tours on Friday afternoon, buses will finish at the Auckland airport. Expect confirmed costings in early 2027. |
