Michele AyresAorakiI’m Michele Ayres, your Aoraki representative. Home is a former fishing hut that was a former Army surplus hut and I’m listening to the comings and goings of fowl life across Lake Ellesmere. Generally it’s very quiet and a fair way from another quiet place, Aoraki Mt Cook, my first home. As a round-eyed child I met some very wild and woolly types (pre-Shrek, of course). It was very much a ‘bloke’s world’ and some of those were very much driven. Starting something, pushing on with it, and finishing, were the order of the day.
Now, librarian at Christchurch Girls’ High, I can live my reading passion. Recent tech changes make it an exciting time to be working in school libraries. R Buckminster Fuller worried that humanity was ‘acquiring all the right technology for all the wrong reasons.’ Fair comment in the daze of txting, pxting, and social networking. That’s why I think libraries have a real role in promoting the educational value of these tools. Professional Development is another favourite topic of mine and my area of responsibility on the National Executive. I’d love to know what YOU think…drop me a line. Michele is the leader of SLANZA's Professional Development team. |
