Kate de Goldi and Fiona Mackie Wow the Far North

Great Reads for Gutsy Girls and What Katie Did Next were the themes of two recent seminars organised be the Tai Tokerau branch of SLANZA.

Kate de Goldi, writer and broadcaster, and Fiona Mackie from the National Library in Auckland, look forward to their visit as guest speakers on the SLANZA Te Tai Tokerau seminars.
The first session was held on Thursday evening, the 26th of June, at Kerikeri High School. Kate was the first of our guests to meet the public and what a great public it was. Approximately 90 people turned up to enjoy Kate s company and to hear her talk entitled The A Z of Writing . This was extremely well received. We hope to be able to publish this talk on the SLANZA website shortly for the rest of New Zealand to enjoy. Many thanks for this Kate.

Saturday, the 28th of June, was the day the seminar planned for Kaitaia nearly finished before it started. The person who was supposed to open up had no experience of alarm systems and was unable to turn off the alarm without help. This meant Fiona was delayed in her pre talk preparation. However, being the gutsy girl she is, she was ready on time and delivered an inspiring talk Thank you Fiona for the enthusiasm with which you approached your topic. This enthusiasm was transmitted to the audience of around forty committed school library supporters. You will see from the booklist Great Reads for Gutsy Girls , which Fiona has graciously allowed us to publish on this website, that we were indeed treated to something very special. Thank you again Fiona

Fiona Mackie enthralls her audience with her great knowledge of literature for gutsy girls.

Kay Neeley, on behalf of SLANZA Te Tai Tokerau, presents Fiona with a rimu tray and a bottle of Kaitaia Fire chili sauce.

The morning seminar finished with a thought provoking talk presented by Kate de Goldi. Once again Kate wowed her audience and has left a lasting impression on those who were priviledged to hear her and talk with her.
