2013 Half-Yearly Update
The first half of 2013 has seen a lot of country wide initiatives by SLANZA. Great to see members from our region involved in some of them. On the SLANZAK front, March saw us host the first PD event of the year. We had two wonderful speakers presenting workshops on “Social Media, Building Communities & Promoting Services”/Julia Smith, Kerikeri High School &“Never too many great ideas: developing and managing your professional learning community through social networking”/ Esther Casey, Cognition. In May we had our Annual General Meeting. Kaaren Hirst presented the annual report which reflected the vibrancy of the growth of the professional activities of our region. The guest speaker at the AGM was James Russell, author of The Dragon hunters and Editor of the Elements magazine for the New Zealand Herald. We enjoyed his talk on his road to writing and hearing some snippets from his book Kaaren also stepped down from the committee. As the convenor, she has done an amazing job of bringing the region forward by guiding the committee and ensuring that SLANZAK provides the best professional development opportunities to Auckland members. Her expertise, skills and institutional knowledge are irreplaceable. During the course of the year, we also bid farewell to two other committee members, Anthea Hamlet and Veronica McLeod. Words are not adequate to thank the commitment, time and skills that the three people have given to us. We wish them well in their future endeavours. We also welcomed two new committee members, Angela Soutar & Corinne Hinton. Other members on the committee are Bharathi Char, Trish Webster, Pamela Lilley, Tracy Westall, Karen Leahy, Anne Rolinson, Dale Tifflin, Lori Pushon and Elizabeth Atkinson. We hope to bring you professional development opportunities over the next two terms that will help you get and stay ahead. Watch this space for updates on that.
